Rosa Cartwright was born on July 18, 1923, in Roanoke Alabama to George and Eva Dozier.
Rosa came to Michigan by way of Ohio in the 1940’s. She attended National Beauty Culturists’ League (NBCL) where she held the title of 3rd Vice President and Secretary to the League. She pledged to the sorority Theta Nu Sigma and was one of the oldest sorority members. She also held the title of Theta Nu Sigma’s Ambassador for the State of Michigan for many years. She graduated with a degree in Cosmetology.
She married Benjamin Cartwright in 1951 and had four children. She was the owner and proprietor of Tony’s Beauty Salon for over 70 years. She also owned a convenience store.
She was a member in many city and local committees such as The Eastern Star, Choir Director and Member, Vice President of Mount Olive Baptist Church, Piano Player/Teacher. Rosa continued to be a weekly member of an avid group of game players. Over the years she has been presented many local and state letters of recognition for her contributions, and continued to be a prominent pillar in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Rosa had two sets of five generations in her lineage. She was proud of the fact she lived alone and independently cared for herself. We were so proud of her tenacity, spunk, and the love she continued to pour out to her family. She was truly a beacon to all who knew her and is loved by her friends and family.
She is proceeded in death by her husband Benjamin, her daughter Delores Dogan and son Anthony Cartwright. She is survived by her daughters Mary Bishop-O’Banner, and Monica Fletcher and a host of loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends.
