Age 61, passed into peace on November 13, 2018, at his home in Ann Arbor Michigan. Son of the late Willie James and Dorothy Jean (VanCatledge) Simpson. Gary was born on March 11, 1957, in Detroit, Michigan and grew up in Ann Arbor Michigan.

Gary attended John Allen Elementary, Scarlett Jr. High and was a 1975 graduate of Ann Arbor Huron High School where he played football and was an all-state gymnast in rings and high bar. After high school, he attended Michigan State University.

Gary spent the last nine years of his career at Terumo Cardiovascular Systems as a Quality Management Internal Lead Auditor and always said Terumo was the best organization he ever worked for. His co-workers described him as a dedicated professional and said he had a great sense of humor.

Gary was a collector of vintage cars and trucks. His automotive pride and joys were a 68 Corvette, a white Mustang and a black Trans Am. He was a collector of clocks and timepieces, but the family joke was that for all their beauty and craftmanship none of his clocks were ever set for the correct time. Gary also loved hunting, and while he shot at many deer, the deer rejoiced that he had terrible aim. He loved dogs, especially German Shepherds. He claimed he didn’t like cats, but his daughter’s new kitten, Jade won him over.

A great cook, Gary was a master at preparing barbeque ribs and loved creating holiday meals for his family. He also was a connoisseur of black olives and exotic varieties of meat.

While Gary loved his work and career, he believed that his most satisfying accomplishment was fatherhood. He was the devoted and loving father of Mallory Simpson. The proud uncle of Lauren and Garrison Simpson, and the amazing brother of Karen Simpson, John Cedric Simpson and Delphia Simpson (Garth John). Karen, John, and Delphia are all from Ann Arbor Michigan. Gary is also survived by ex-wife Nancy Simpson and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, November 19, 2018, with the family hour beginning at 12:30 until the hour of service at 1 pm. The family hour and service will take place at Bethel AME Church, 900 John A Woods Drive, Ann Arbor, Michigan, Rev. Mashod A. Evans officiating.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Cedric, my condolences to the family. May his soul rip.

I worked with Gary some before I retired. He was a pleasant fellow and if I remember correctly he had a long slow determined looking stride as he walked down the hall. It looked like he was contemplating his next mission. My condolence to you all and may he rest in peace!
